KnowledgeOman.com launched
MUSCAT — A group of
students, experts and professionals from academia, as well as
the IT industry, business and government institutions yesterday
launched the first IT Knowledge Internet platform
www.knowledgeoman.com. “The objective of the new forum is to
build up a public knowledge society in Oman by creating an area
for people to learn, share and exchange ideas about Information
and Communication Technology,” said IT expert Tariq Hilal al
Barwani (pictured), the brains behind KnowledgeOman.com, at a
presentation held at the Higher College of Technology’s IT
Vision 2008.
Al Barwani, who chairs the forum, said, “The most successful
organisations today are the ones that have one thing in common:
transforming ideas from its employees into meaningful knowledge.
Researchers call these organisations knowledge-building
communities. We call our internet platform Knowledge Oman.” The
mission of the new Internet platform KnowledgeOman.com is to
bridge the IT knowledge gap between students, professionals and
the industry sector and to contribute to Oman’s knowledge-based
economy.
“We want to link key specialised professionals with those who
haven’t specialised yet,” said Al Barwani. Therefore, the
platform provides latest local and international news, guides
and tutorials, events and answers all kind of questions, from
simple queries, such as how to configure one’s computer at home,
or as complex as, how to build an IT infrastructure at work. All
of the information is available free for everybody to learn,
share and exchange across the Internet medium.
Knowledge Oman will help to prepare professionals and students
for today’s IT requirements and to educate the public on the use
and benefits of ICT,” said Al Barwani. The forum,
www.knowledgeoman.com, is being managed by a group of young
Omanis and expatriates, who are dedicated to share and promote
knowledge across the Sultanate. A number of competitions with
valuable prizes will be conducted by the forum.
