‘Enormous job chances in IT’

MUSCAT — The annual Open Day presentation held yesterday by IT expert Tariq Hilal Al Barwani at Sultan Qaboos University received tremendous response as well as excellent feedback from various professionals in the industry, government, academics as also students from the university, other colleges and schools in Oman.

“Our world is electronically driven by computers. The Information Technology (IT) market is growing rapidly. The government of Oman has realised the potential of the medium; as a result, there are a number of job opportunities available in IT for everybody. You just need the necessary tools to drive the vehicle that the nation depends on today,” said Tariq as his first remark during the presentation.

The presentation addressed the key factors of success in addition to the development and progress of IT in Oman. The purpose of the presentation was to stress the importance of IT worldwide and how the Sultanate can utilise the medium effectively to introduce an additional channel of income to the country’s wealth as opposed to oil that the Gulf countries depend on today.

Amal Al Mashaikhi, director of the computer science group at SQU, noted that Tariq’s speech was not only thrilling and remarkable, but also very beneficial as it illustrated every aspect of technology and communication that has been practised in the market in the past, is being practised today, and will be practised in the future.

“Everyone can achieve success provided he or she is a good listener, hard-working, ambitious, has a good attitude, and a plan with goals set in mind. One could do better with the abundant facilities and opportunities that are available today,” Tariq said.

Later, the participants had the opportunity to ask queries on information and communication technology as well as some aspects of the personal life and successes of Oman’s whiz kid.

Tariq has previously held similar presentations at Deslie Training Institute, Oman Training Institute, Indian School Al Ghubra, Muscat Private School, Muscat College and Shatti Qurum School for Girls. Tariq was also invited to conduct seminar for professionals on Quality Customer Care at Khimji Training Institute at the age of 20.
