IT expert to speak
at SQU Open Day
MUSCAT —
Tariq Hilal Al Barwani, Oman’s popular IT expert, has been
invited by Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) to attend the annual
Open Day event and present the importance and future of
Information & Communica-tions Technologies in Oman.
The event, to be held on November 5 and 6, will promote the
awareness and use of technology in the Sultanate. The open day
is an annual event presented by the Computer Science Group (CSG)
in SQU.
An important demand for qualified IT professionals comes from
all sectors of industry and commerce in a variety of
applications.
“The Omani government has realised the potential of IT and is
heavily investing in the IT sector,” said Tariq. E-government
and the use of IT in Telecommunications will also be presented
during the two hours special lecture. Tariq’s presentation will
illustrate the critical factors that every student and
professionals should concentrate in order to become successful
in IT.
Tariq said: “What does IT hold in store and what does it take to
become successful in IT is what I would like to share”.
Tariq has over 10 years of professional experience in IT, where
he served as a programmer, instructor, manager, consultant and
IT presenter in TV/Radio programmes.
He has a diploma in Information Systems, Bachelors with honours
in Computer Science, and Masters degree in Information
Technology.
Tariq was voted best dotcom in Oman for his IT portal (www.tariq.net)
and early this year, the world’s software giant, Microsoft, has
awarded Tariq as the Most Valuable Professional in the country.
He is currently a doctorate candidate in one of the leading
Universities in America.
Hundreds of students from the university, other colleges and
schools in Oman will attend this event.
