Omani student
excels in Computer Course
MUSCAT — Tariq bin Hilal Al
Barwani, an Omani computer student, has achieved excellence by scoring As
in all his courses. He has been placed among the top five per cent of the
Acadia students.
Acadia University was founded in 1838. Canada's opinion leaders consider
the university to be the best overall, primarily undergraduate university
in Canada. In the Maclean's annual universities issue, released on
November 19, last year, Acadia was placed first in all four categories of
the reputation survey — highest quality, leaders of tomorrow, most
innovative, and best overall.
The Acadia University is the first university ever to be noted as the best
in all categories and it marks the sixth consecutive year that Acadia has
been considered the most innovative. The university integrates the use of
notebook computers into the undergraduate curriculum. The students receive
IBM ThinkPad computers for their use as an integral part of their learning
experience during the academic year. Students can connect and make use of
to the Internet from any location. Tariq, who writes a weekly column for
the Times of Oman, has received a congratulatory letter from the dean of
the Computer Science-Department of the Acadia University. Tariq stated: “I
attribute my achievement to my country and my parents who have encouraged
and supported me at all times".
Tariq also said: “When I first arrived in Canada, many did not know where
Oman was, but I made it a point to introduce Oman to all my colleagues and
today virtually everyone knows where Oman is. I feel proud about that.”
