• At the age of 13 years old, I was selected to represent my country (Sultanate of Oman) to participate in the gulf region computer workshop in Bahrain.

 

  • Developed web projects for reputable organizations such as BankMuscat, IMTAC, Al Hashar Group of Companies, Tawoos Group of Companies, Nissan Automobiles, Marina Bander Al Rowdha, Sohar Beach Hotel, Hallaniyat, British Petroleum, Muscat Securities Market, Oman Center for Investment Promotion & Export Development (OCIPED), Mazoon college for management and applied sciences, and the general horizontal portal Oman Access.

 

  • Developed stand-alone virus scanners & cleaners programs such as Happy99, Fix 2001, I love you bug.

 

  • Created a program for the sole telecommunications provider in my country (Oman Telecommunications Company - Omantel). The program configured the ISP Internet Subscriber’s DNS, POP3 & SMTP protocols settings automatically. The program was approved and officially released by Omantel.

 

  • Created Oman’s first IT Portal under my name www.tariq.net. The IT Portal delivered up-to-date and latest Information about the IT scene locally & globally. In addition, it had an attractive combination of best-of-breed contents with the services that made visitors kept visiting. The Portal provided and included categories like IT News, IT Jobs, IT Conference, Free Emails, Free Downloads, Education, Greeting Cards etc of elite services. The site was sponsored by reputable organizations such as Bankmuscat, Gulf Business Machine, Khimji Ramdas, Bahwan Cybertek, Genetco, Commercial Bank and Outdoor Marketing.

 

  • Named as the Super Silicon Kid by Business Today.

 

  • The IT portal was purchased by OHI Telecommunication, a multination leading IT company in Oman and was renamed to  www.ohitariq.net.

 

  • I was nominated as the best Dot-Com Idea, the IT portal was selected as the best portal in the country, and Omanaccess [a UMS venture and the portal I played major role in development] was selected second – a hit of three birds with one stone.

 

  • Writing articles on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Oman's local English and Arabic newspapers since Feb 1999.

 

  • Featured on the following local & international media publications : World Press Freedom Review 1999, Business Today, The Week, Commercial, Zawya, Thursday, Khaleej Times, Gulf News, Al Watan, Al Shabiba, Times of Oman, Oman Tribune, Oman Observer, Al Maraa Magazine, Al Nahda, City Business, Comex, Success in Oman, Swinburne University Alumni.

 

  • Selected as one of the successful Omanies in a book called Success in Oman, by Allegro Communications.

   

  • Conducted seminars and lectures on IT matters at various institutions e.g. Indian School, Muscat College, Khimji Training Institute, Muscat Private School and Deslie Training Institute.

 

  • I received a congratulatory letter from the Dean of the Computer Science Department of the Acadia University (in Canada) for being placed among the top 5% of Acadia Students.  I was selected as one of top 5% students of the Canadian University.

 

  • Offered a job as Teaching Assistant (TA) at the Canadian school. I was again offered the same opportunity after the first semester in Australia while I was doing the Masters degree.
     
  • Nawras awarded as the best software and telecommunications website from the Oman Web Awards 2005 and 2007 competition.
     
  • Nawras awarded as the best ICT website regionally from the Pan Arab Awards 2005 and 2007 competition, held in Beirut, Lebanon.

 

  • Assisted the Ministry of Information to create and introduce a Live IT Television Programme called "Raqmyaat" as part of their new television channel Oman TV2. Raqmyaat presents the latest in IT, reports, news, product reviews, games, tips & tricks, and questions & answers session. I present and host the programme.

 

  • Named as the Man of the Moment by Al Mara Magazine.

 

  • Nawras awarded 'Best of the Best' website locally from the Oman Web Awards 2006 competition.

 

  • Assisted the local Oman FM (of the Ministry of Information) to create and introduce a live IT Radio Talk Programme called CyberTalk. The programme presents the latest local and International IT news, best of breed topics, quizes and question and answers with the hosts. I also work as a host in the programme.

  • Selected to represent the Oman Web Awards 2006 as the "Master of Ceremonies" (MC).
