Mecit inter-collegiate fest ‘Quest’ concludes
MUSCAT — ‘Quest,’ a three-day academic and cultural extravaganza organised by
the Middle East College of Information Technology, (Mecit), concluded with a
glittering prize distribution ceremony yesterday.
‘Quest’ aims to help students understand the right attitude and skill required
by the industry and provides an avenue to analyse their own capabilities.
The event was hosted for three days featuring various competitions under
computer science, business, design and performing arts.
The open forum, at the inaugural ceremony marked the beginning of ‘Quest’ with
distinguished speakers including Tariq Hilal Al Barwani, president, Knowledge
Oman, Dr Madeeha Ibrahim, lecturer, theatre psychology, SQU and Khadija Nasser
Al Lamki, a designer and winner of Young Entrepreneur of the Year award, who
shared their thoughts on various categories of the event.
‘Geek a byte’, jointly hosted by .Net Club and Department of Computing,
assessed contestants’ technical knowledge, innovative and creative thought
processes, ability to work in teams and think on their feet in the field of
computing. The judges for the event were Sangeeta Sridhar, ITA editor for
Digital Oman, Ali Al Lawati, manager, TSRS, Ernst & Young and Navneet Kannan,
system security analyst, BankDhofar.
The winners of four categories under ‘Geek a byte’ were: ‘Gizmo Geek’
—Caledonian College of Engineering, ‘Pixo Geek’ & ‘Cybo Geek’ — Higher College
of Technology (HCT) and ‘Info Geek’— SQU and runners-up for ‘Gizmo Geek’ and
‘Cybo Geek’ was Middle East College of Information Technology (Mecit).
‘Business Sense’ was organised by Business Society in coordination with the
Department of Business Studies. It tested participants’ problem solving
abilities, knowledge of market, mental awareness, analytical, leadership and
presentation skills.
‘Battle of the Bands’, a live music forum, enthralled the audience and kept
the Mecit sports auditorium reverberating as bands from SQU, Muscat College,
Majan College, Higher College of Technology, Waljat College of Applied
Sciences competed for the ‘Best Band’. The foot-tapping and riveting battle
was won by Majan College.
