Tariq presents to Royal Oman Police
MUSCAT — Tariq Hilal Al Barwani IT expert was recently invited by the Royal
Oman Police to speak at the symposium on ‘Security of Vital Installations’ at
Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa. The seminar was held under the patronage of Major
General Salim bin Mussalam Qatan assistance inspector general of police and
customs in the presence of undersecretaries senior officers of the Sultan’s
Armed Forces and security apparatuses.
The objective of the event was to deliver an information al emphasis on
national secur ty and the importance of unit ing as one to fight against
impending threats and increase awareness of the cur rent trends in
international security and the organisations involved. Tariq gave a
presentation on ‘Penetrating into security through people’ elaborating on how
a skilled hacker could gain access to a secured area through people and not
technology. “Companies invest a lot of money on technology but not people.
That’s the problem. Companies must educate their employees about security in
general in order to protect against social engi neering attacks” he said.
Hackers use their programming and networking skills to exploit applications
operating systems and network proto cols to get and hack inside your company’s
network whereas social engineers use their people skills to exploit your
company’s employees and stakeholders who have access to your organisation.”
This was the third symposium on security of vital installations organised by
the Royal Oman Police in association with specialists in this field. More than
350 people ranging from security officers safety and security experts
university professors and sen ior managers attended the presentation..
