Omani student excels in Computer Course
MUSCAT — Tariq bin Hilal Al Barwani, an Omani computer student, has achieved
excellence by scoring As in all his courses. He has been placed among the top
five per cent of the Acadia students.
Acadia University was founded in 1838. Canada's opinion leaders consider the
university to be the best overall, primarily undergraduate university in
Canada. In the Maclean's annual universities issue, released on November 19,
last year, Acadia was placed first in all four categories of the reputation
survey — highest quality, leaders of tomorrow, most innovative, and best
overall.
The Acadia University is the first university ever to be noted as the best in
all categories and it marks the sixth consecutive year that Acadia has been
considered the most innovative. The university integrates the use of notebook
computers into the undergraduate curriculum. The students receive IBM ThinkPad
computers for their use as an integral part of their learning experience
during the academic year. Students can connect and make use of to the Internet
from any location. Tariq, who writes a weekly column for the Times of Oman,
has received a congratulatory letter from the dean of the Computer
Science-Department of the Acadia University. Tariq stated: “I attribute my
achievement to my country and my parents who have encouraged and supported me
at all times".
Tariq also said: “When I first arrived in Canada, many did not know where Oman
was, but I made it a point to introduce Oman to all my colleagues and today
virtually everyone knows where Oman is. I feel proud about that.”
